Titirangi is, unless you live there, pretty shit to get to. And if you do live there you’re probably too busy fantasising about leaving to have any time for art.

G17

So you’re forgiven for thinking it’s some kind of political thing, like the G8 Summit but better by 9 world leaders. Funnily enough, if you type it into google it comes up with a liberal-conservative political party from Serbia.

As if the joys of Te papa and feasible public transport weren’t enough, here’s another reason to pay the capital a visit. Opening on the 20th of May, Wellington’s Pixel Ink Gallery presents The Corrosive Empire, an exhibition of work by KIRAN-X.

Wellington's own Pixel Ink Gallery is opening Melissa McDougall's first solo New Zealand show next week. McDougall is a Wellington-based painter whose new exhibition, Dark Belles, explores how urban dwellers interact with their environment. The show focuses on the idea of a female heroine inhabiting a dark cityscape.

As if the spate of graduation shows and end of year exhibitions going on at the moment wasn’t enough for you, a bunch of recent painting graduates have organised their own show at Cross Street Studios called We have No Self Control.

Richard Freestone - Populaire

Auckland-based artist Richard Freestone has a wonderful looking exhibition that opened last week at Seed Gallery in Newmarket. The exhibition of new works, entitled Populaire, looks at creating an intersection between high art and the low-brow of popular culture and runs from August 27 to September 7.

Silent Auction! Shhh!

I can't speak for anyone else, but when I finished uni one of the first things I did was try and block large portions of it from my memory. A lot of these were from my final year which was, like everyone else's, stressful and rushed and sleep-deprived.
