Summer Wind

Summer Wind is a collaborative, eclectic, scrapbook-narrative comic book created by Steven Lyons, Eddie Dawn-McCurdy and Jake Hope in early 2007. Summer Wind is on sale at all of Makeshift's events and various craft fairs around Auckland.
But what is a 'collaborative, eclectic, scrapbook-narrative comic book'? Good question. Even we're not too sure, and we made it. The purpose of Summer Wind was to tell a story from several different viewpoints, to tell the story of a group of people using the different voices of the characters. The book takes the form of someone's scrapbook of their summer holiday – a collection of notes, sketches, photos, cartoons from their friends, found object ... the usual ephemera that gets collected around a trip out of the city. From this varied group of stuff a cumulative narrative can be drawn, leaving the reader with an experience that is challenging, but rewarding.

Summer Wind was made over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, frantically compiled just in time for printing. It was released at Makeshift's Post Christmas Cracker event.
The release was a milestone for Eddie, Jake and Steven. The guys have since gone on to exhibit together in their first group exhibition at The Wall Gallery entitled Telling Tales.
