Makeshift Feels the Love in the Capital City
Two of the Makeshift crew were fortunate enough to take a trip down to Wellington recently, where they happened on even more fortune when they were met with smiles and witty banter at two of Wellington’s finest boutiques. Lucky for me, I was one of those who took the trip. The boutiques are Madame Fancy Pants and Popup. Both of which I am proud to say are Wellington’s exclusive stockists of Makeshift Magazine Issue #3.
Madame Fancy Pants (217 Cuba Street) is the brainchild of Claire Terry, a self-taught jeweller, who aspires to and achieves making beautiful, loveable and unique pieces of jewellery. Upon walking into the store, you can’t help but let out a squeal of delight, well, I know I did. In addition to Claire’s jewellery, there are greeting cards, calendars, bags, baby clothes, adult-people clothes, wallets (not to mention coin purses shaped to look like little birds) and adorable artwork. The boutique is a delight and so is the woman running the show. I made sure to pick up one of the "The Want List" cards on the counter, so I can drop some not so inconspicuous hints to my loved ones.
Popup* (57 Ghuznee Street) is a gallery and boutique space executed in a most spectacular way. They specialize in designer vinyl toys and art from internationally renowned artists. The space’s walls and shelving are chock-full of eye candy, with charming and quirky toys mixed amongst art prints and designer tees. The store is ideal for those looking to collect a limited edition print or toy. You can feel the energy emitted by such amazing pieces of artwork and the buzz of people getting excited about being a part of something as they pick up the next collectable toy limited to a run of 500 or so. The owners are a husband and wife team with a zeal for art and a savvy know-how for pleasing the customer with all the latest bits of limited edition designer collectables.
Thanks to two amazing boutiques that are now amazingly carrying the amazing Makeshift Magazine Issue#3!
*I’ve just gotten wind that Popup only has one copy left, but we are hoping to send some more down soon!
