Come on, show some decorum

Having just landed back in Auckland we have been lucky enough to get a heads up on a very neat looking exhibition from Auckland-based artist, Henrietta Harris. We will be at Satellite Gallery this Tuesday checking out the opening night. If you can't make it, then luckily the show is on from April 23 - May 4.

Henrietta has been building up a name for herself over the past few years with her distinctive gig posters, paintings, drawings and, more recently, hand-drawn and printed t-shirts. She is also, on a personal note, the illustrator of my most commented on t-shirt, a lovely panda with crown print.

I know that you are already chomping at the bit to check this exhibition out but here are some other interesting notes on Henrietta which will help you on your way.

  • Henrietta graduated in early 2006 from AUT with a Bachelor of Art and Design and has been steadily creating work since then, recently living in Melbourne for 6 months where she is having a solo exhibition in early 2008.
  • In April of this year Henrietta had a successful solo exhibition at Butterfly Net in Auckland, entitled 'He had an off-beat delivery and I loved it' where she sold the majority of artworks and was named 'Art Pick of the week' in the NZ Herald, as well as earning a small segment in NZ fashion magazine 'Black'.
  • While her work explores a range of different styles and subject matters, a definite, unifying thread ties each of the pieces together, maintaining a eccentric sensibility while keeping an eye on tradition.
  • Henrietta finds inspiration through British comedy shows, coin tricks, unlistenable music, alligators, and coffee.
