Love movies and retro book covers? Well thanks to a fellow who goes by the handle Spacesick you can now visually indulge in both.
I found his 'I can read movies' series a little while ago and wanted to share it as I recently read a little bit about Mitch Ansara (Spacesick, who is based in Toledo, USA). He notes himself as having no training, experience or confidence in design or type. Why is this exciting? Well go here and check out the range of covers he created, all with a very simple, but lovingly crafted, aesthetic. For me it helps me to think about how your training, experience and confidence can work against you.
These covers are filled with confidence in the way they are executed – this may have come from the fact that Spacesick would have had no expectations of what he was creating. Well I think you will agree that he made some really lovely and well suited covers. Spacesick says he was inspired by Olly Moss' retro movie posters which are also worth checking out. Both Moss and Spacesick's projects came from the Make Something Cool Every Day (http://www.flickr.com/groups/1012163@N22/pool/) group on flickr. I know I need to go and make something cool, you should too... but after looking at some retro lovelies.
